It is rather hard to believe how much money you can make in stocks that the TV "talking heads" think are going bankrupt. We have been buying Las Vegas Sands since March (our first purchase was at $2.75 on March 30). We have taken some profits along the way and have finally (today) sold the final 1,500 shares in our position at $13.43 a share. The whole time we have been buying the stock, the talking heads have told us not to, the company has too much debt, it's going bankrupt, yada, yada, yada. So why did we buy it in the face of such negativity? The stock was in a clear uptrend in March inspite of all the nonesense about impending bankruptcy. Also note how the volume was growing as it began its ascent. This told us that there were a lot of people who were willing to bet that the TV types were wrong.
So why did we sell today? Several reasons:
1) We had a great profit (not a reason to sell all by itself)
2) We anticipate that there will be a correction of some sort in the broad market very soon
3) The stock released really good news yesterday and spiked up. It was up this morning in the pre-market and then tanked. In other words, the stock looks tired.
4) The talking heads are getting positive about LVS. Since the talking heads are wrong so often...
So have the courage of your convictions, especially if the TV is telling you that you're wrong!
