FinViz

A co-member of the New Jersey Options Group sent me a link to a website called Finviz a couple of days ago. I took a look at the site and was impressed.

The information available on the site is extensive bordering on overwhelming. The home page shows candlestick charts of the major indexes, prices of a large number of stocks selected by various filters, corporate insiders buy / sell transactions, and prices for select currencies and futures.

There is also a screener page that allows you to filter out a list of stocks based on a wide variety of criteria such as: Exchange, Market Cap., Dividend Yield, Average Volume, Industry, Analyst Recommendations and more. This is a very handy screen.

There is also a "Maps" page which is very interesting. The page shows several groups of stocks and a number of stocks in the group, with each stock having a background of red (down), black (flat) or green (up). If you see a group where most of the stocks have a green background you might look there for buying opportunities.

The site also has one other very interesting feature. If you hover your cursor over any symbol a chart of the stock will pop up. This allows you to scroll through a long list of stock charts VERY quickly, so that you can decide which (if any) are worthy of further consideration.

My only knock on the site is that its "presentation" is a bit plain, but the information available here is wonderful. Check this site out!
