CME in Talks to Buy the CBOE

According to CNBC, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange is in "informal" talks to buy the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). CME is up a bit over $3 a share in the pre-market, the CBOE is privately held, but is working on an IPO.

On a long-term basis, this seems like a good idea as we expect option volume to do nothing but grow over the coming years. We will have to see what the price is, if indeed the CME does put a formal offer on the table.
