E-Micro Futures

The CME introduced new FX futures contract, called E-Micro contracts, a while back. These are FX contracts which trade at one tenth the size of the regular contracts the CME lists. This lowers the margin required to trade them. Currently there are six contracts: EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, USD/CAD, AUD/USD, USD/CHF (EUR = the Euro, JPY = Japanese Yen, GBP = British Pound, CAD = Canadian Dollar, and CHF = Swis Franc).

Volume on these contracts has been light to date (averaging about 4,200 contracts per day), but bear in mind that volume started out light in the S&P 500 E-Mini and has grown immensely since.

The CME is now considering adding more E-Micro contracts to their line up of products. Under consideration are interest rate contracts and energy contracts. Exact details are not yet available, but keep an eye out for them. At some point, these will possibly be good futures for small traders to "cut their teeth on".
